    Description

WEA Series Worm Gear Slew Drives from our ECO line offer a powerful, robust, and cost-effective solution for the controlled rotation of heavy structures and machinery. They combine a worm gear reducer and a slewing bearing in a compact unit, enabling high torque transmission while supporting axial, radial and tilting loads.

The WEA ECO series offers excellent value for money and is suitable for agricultural, forestry, construction and industrial machinery applications where high rotational torque and precise load positioning are required.

How a Worm Gear Slew Drive Works

A worm gear slew drive operates on the principle of a worm gear transmission, in which a worm drives a toothed slewing ring. This design provides a high gear reduction ratio, high output torque, and slow, smooth, and controlled rotation. The drive can be operated using a suitable hydraulic motor. Its design allows continuous 360° rotation, while the integrated slewing bearing supports high axial and radial forces as well as tilting moments, making the drive suitable for demanding operating conditions.

    Key Advantages

    • ECO line – an affordable solution offering excellent value for money.

    • High output torque for rotating heavy structures and loads.

    • Compact and robust design with an integrated slewing bearing.

    • Continuous 360° rotation capability.

    • Precise and controlled rotation with a high gear reduction ratio.

    • High axial and radial load capacity.

    • High resistance to tilting moments.

    • High-quality materials and heat-treated gear components.

    • Wide range of models for different loads and applications.

    Applications

WEA ECO Series Worm Gear Slew Drives are used across various industries, particularly in applications requiring reliable rotation and positioning of heavy machinery components and assemblies.

    • Forestry machinery – forestry trailers, cranes and rotating structures.

    • Agricultural machinery – rotating arms, attachments and agricultural equipment.

    • Construction machinery – cranes, lifting equipment and rotating platforms.

    • Industrial equipment – positioning devices, rotary tables and material handling systems.

    • Transport and special-purpose vehicles – rotating assemblies and vehicle-mounted equipment.

    Materials and Construction

WEA ECO Series Worm Gear Slew Drives are manufactured from high-quality steels that provide mechanical strength, wear resistance and a long service life with proper maintenance.

Gear components may be manufactured from steel grades 45, 50Mn, 42CrMo or 42CrMo4, while the worms may be made from 42CrMo or 20CrMoTi steel. Selected components are heat-treated to improve hardness and wear resistance.

The hardness of the hardened raceway surfaces ranges from 55 to 62 HRC, while the surface hardness of the worm gear assembly ranges from 58 to 62 HRC.

The worm gear slew drive is pre-lubricated at the factory.

    Limiting Load Diagram

The diagram shows the permissible combinations of axial load and tilting moment for the WEA7 worm gear slew drive. As the axial load increases, the permissible tilting moment decreases. For proper selection and safe operation of the slew drive, the load limits specified by the manufacturer must be observed.

Horizontal axis: Axial load in kN.

Vertical axis: Tilting moment in kNm.

Shaded area: Permissible combinations of loads according to the manufacturer's diagram.

Limit curve: Maximum permissible combined load that must not be exceeded.
